The Bremen Lions had a strong showing at the 2025 INSC Conference Meet on Saturday, with the girls and boys teams each securing second place overall in a highly competitive field at Bremen High School.
Girls’ Recap
The Bremen Lady Lions set the tone early, winning the 200 Medley Relay in 2:09.82. The team of Sara Sahlhoff, Paisley Welborn, Hannah VanVuren, and Lyndsey Byrd became the first of several Conference Champions for Bremen.
Key performances included:
- 200 Freestyle: Paisley Welborn finished 2nd (2:24.18), and Izzy Wildauer took 4th (2:29.11).
- 200 Individual Medley: Lyndsey Byrd claimed the title of Conference Champion with a dominant 2:40.32 finish, 14 seconds ahead of the next swimmer.
- 50 Freestyle: Bremen swept the podium with Hannah VanVuren in 1st (27.24) and Sara Sahlhoff in 2nd (27.91).
- 100 Freestyle: Sophia Sahlhoff took 3rd (1:08.15).
- 500 Freestyle: Welborn finished 2nd (6:21.91), with Wildauer close behind in 3rd (6:38.43).
- 100 Butterfly: VanVuren claimed the Conference title with a time of 1:06.24, winning by 15 seconds.
- 100 Backstroke: Sahlhoff earned another championship with a commanding 1:08.05 finish.
- 100 Breaststroke: Byrd finished 2nd (1:25.49).
The Bremen girls finished with 87 points, securing 2nd place overall, highlighted by their impressive number of individual and relay champions.
Boys’ Recap
Despite starting the meet short-handed, the Bremen boys showed resilience, rallying to finish 2nd overall with 83 points.
Key performances included:
- 200 Medley Relay: The team of JanCarlo Deleon, Scott Wesner, Lincoln Heiter, and Graham Ferguson placed 3rd (2:18.89).
- 200 Freestyle: Aaron Nettrouer (2:19.92) and Nick Stiles (2:25.72) earned critical points.
- 200 Individual Medley: Heiter scored 2 points with a 2:46.97 finish.
- 50 Freestyle: Blake Grove narrowly missed gold, taking 2nd with a time of 27.91.
- 100 Freestyle: Nettrouer broke the 1-minute barrier, finishing 4th (59.59), while Grant Horner took 5th (1:09.07).
- 500 Freestyle: Sawyer Miller (5:48.95) and Nick Stiles (6:14.63) both made the podium.
- 100 Butterfly: Hunter Cannon placed 2nd (1:05.53), and Miller followed in 3rd (1:05.84).
- 100 Breaststroke: Grove earned Bremen’s sole boys’ Conference Championship with a 1:07.49 finish, winning by 5 seconds.
- 400 Freestyle Relay: The team of Stiles, Wesner, Nettrouer, and Horner finished strong in 4th (4:28.87), adding 6 crucial points.
The boys’ perseverance and championship-level performances secured them their second-place finish, capping off a competitive and exciting meet for the Lions.
