The Blackford Bruins men’s varsity basketball team opened the Shenandoah Holiday Tournament with a win over Indianapolis Tindley before falling to Greater Latrobe in the evening matchup. The Bruins now hold a 5-3 record and will play Greenwood Christian in the third-place game on Saturday at 2 p.m.
Game 1: Blackford 56, Indianapolis Tindley 50
The Bruins kicked off the tournament with a 56-50 victory over Indianapolis Tindley, improving to 5-2 on the season. Gage Baker led Blackford with 19 points, while Mari Leggett added 15. Mason Kitterman chipped in 8 points, and Jacob Dillon provided a spark off the bench with 7. Jacob E. and Kentral Toomer rounded out the scoring with 4 and 3 points, respectively.
The Bruins’ balanced scoring and defensive intensity helped them hold off Tindley and advance to the evening’s semifinal game.
Game 2: Greater Latrobe 66, Blackford 56
In the semifinal matchup, Blackford fell to Greater Latrobe 66-56. Despite another strong performance from Gage Baker, who scored 19 points, the Bruins couldn’t overcome Latrobe’s offensive attack. Mari Leggett contributed 10 points, with Jacob Leas scoring 9 and Kitterman adding 8. Mason McFeely scored 4, while Reggie Duran and Jacob Dillon each chipped in 3 points. Kentral Toomer added 1 point.
The loss sets up a third-place showdown with Greenwood Christian on Saturday afternoon.
