Colts to Play in NFL’s First Berlin Game

The Indianapolis Colts will make history as the designated team for the NFL’s first regular-season game in Berlin, scheduled for 2025 at Olympic Stadium.

The announcement Tuesday adds Berlin to the league’s expanding international schedule. The Colts’ opponent and game date will be determined later.

Germany has emerged as a key market for the NFL, having previously hosted games in Munich and Frankfurt. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers played the first NFL regular-season game in Germany, defeating the Seattle Seahawks in Munich in 2022.

Olympic Stadium has a rich history with American football, hosting five NFL American Bowl games from 1990 to 1994 and serving as home to NFL Europe’s Berlin Thunder from 2003-07.

“The NFL is making history in Berlin, and the Colts are proud to be part of this landmark event in one of the world’s most historic cities,” Colts owner Jim Irsay said.

The 2025 international schedule includes up to eight league-operated regular-season games. Two games will be played at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, featuring the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns as designated teams. The Jacksonville Jaguars will host a game at London’s Wembley Stadium, while Madrid’s Bernabéu Stadium will also host a game.

The Colts have previous international experience, having played regular-season games in both London and Frankfurt.

To date, 55 NFL regular-season games have been played internationally, with venues in London, Munich, Frankfurt, São Paulo, Mexico City and Toronto.
