The La Porte Slicers delivered a clutch performance in the Steiner Homes Holiday Tournament semifinals, closing the game on a 10-0 run to defeat Goshen 55-49 on Saturday afternoon. The victory improves the Slicers to 7-3 on the season and secures their spot in the tournament championship game.
Nic Spence led the way for La Porte with 18 points and 8 rebounds, while Griffin Ott-Large contributed 13 points. Reed Raymond added 10 points to round out the double-digit scorers for the Slicers.
La Porte’s late surge proved decisive, as they erased a narrow deficit and locked down defensively in the closing minutes to seal the win. Goshen’s effort fell short, and they will play in the third-place game at 5 p.m. against McCutcheon, who lost 84-50 to undefeated Northridge earlier in the day.
The championship game, scheduled for 7 p.m., will feature a rematch of last year’s final, where Northridge defeated La Porte 66-60. The Slicers will look to avenge that loss and claim the Holiday Tournament title in front of their home crowd.
