La Porte Opens Holiday Tournament with Win Over Fremont

The La Porte Slicers started the Steiner Homes La Porte Holiday Tournament with a strong performance, defeating Fremont 70-52 in Friday afternoon’s opening round. The win improves La Porte to 6-3 on the season and advances them to the tournament semifinals on Saturday morning.

Griffin Ott-Large led the Slicers with a game-high 20 points, while Nic Spence recorded a double-double, contributing 13 points and 11 rebounds. Sawyer Tonagel added 13 points, including three three-pointers in the second half, and Reed Raymond chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds to round out a balanced offensive attack.

The Slicers will face Goshen in the semifinals on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Goshen advanced after defeating Munster 55-49 in their first-round matchup.

Day 1 Highlights

Elsewhere in the tournament, Northridge dominated Logansport 73-29, and McCutcheon cruised past Lowell 72-42. Northridge and McCutcheon will square off at 10 a.m. on Saturday for a spot in the championship game, which will take place at 7 p.m.

In the consolation bracket, Lowell defeated Logansport 57-49, and Munster downed Fremont 67-45. Fremont and Lowell will play in the seventh-place game, while Munster and Logansport will compete for fifth place.

The Slicers look to continue their strong play in the semifinals as they aim for a spot in Saturday night’s championship game on their home court.
