The Wabash Lady Apaches captured their third consecutive Wabash County Tournament championship in dramatic fashion, defeating Manchester 61-55 in overtime on Saturday night. The victory improves Wabash to 11-3 on the season and solidifies their dominance in the county tourney.
Leading by three points with 3.5 seconds remaining, the Lady Apaches appeared to have the game in hand, but a half-court buzzer-beater by Manchester sent the game to overtime. Wabash quickly regrouped in the extra period, grabbing control and holding on for the win.
Brookelynn Buzzard led all scorers with 25 points, while Kait Honeycutt added 15. Both Buzzard and Honeycutt were named to the All-Tournament team, along with teammate Anna Daughtry. Honeycutt was also honored as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, and Buzzard received the prestigious Rogge Award for mental attitude.
The Lady Apaches’ clutch play in overtime and their balanced contributions throughout the tournament highlight their resilience and teamwork as they continue a strong season. Wabash will look to build on this momentum in their upcoming matchups as they prepare for conference play.
