Lady Lions Wrestling Advances Two to Regionals at Inaugural Sectionals

The Bremen Lady Lions competed in the first-ever Girls Wrestling Sectionals at Mishawaka on Saturday, finishing 11th overall. Two of the team’s three wrestlers secured spots at next week’s Regionals at Goshen High School with strong performances.

125 lbs: McKenzie Scott
Scott opened her tournament with a pin over her opponent from Plymouth. Despite a loss in the semifinals to the eventual sectional champion from Warsaw, she rebounded with a pin against Elkhart to secure her regional berth. Scott finished fourth overall after a tough loss to Triton in the third-place match.

135 lbs: Kayleanna Moser
Moser faced a challenging bracket and came up short in both of her matches, falling to opponents from John Glenn and LaVille.

145 lbs: Makenzie Shumaker
Shumaker showcased resilience and determination en route to becoming a sectional champion. She started strong with a pin over Mishawaka and advanced to the finals after a narrow 7-6 semifinal victory against John Glenn. In the championship match, Shumaker overcame a deficit with a late reversal and a pin against Plymouth, securing the title with 15 seconds left in the second period.

The Lady Lions will now prepare for Regionals, where Scott and Shumaker will look to continue their success. Regionals are set for next Friday at Goshen High School.
