Indiana State sophomore diver Jecza Lopez made her mark in her Sycamore debut this past weekend as the Guadalajara, Mexico native scored high enough to advance to the 2025 NCAA Zone C Qualifiers.
Lopez posted a six-dive score of 267.25 on the 1M Springboard in her first competition in the Sycamore Blue & White after joining the team as a mid-year transfer this January.
She opened the competition with a Forward 2 ½ Somersault Pike posting a score of 48.10 to take control of the meet early against SIU and Indianapolis. Her highest-scoring dive, a Back 1 ½ Somersault Pike, came in the second round hitting 51.75 from the judges. She followed up with a 50.40 on a Reverse 1 ½ Somersault Pike on her way to entering the Sycamores’ record books on the performance list in her first action of the season.
Lopez becomes the just the third Sycamore diver in program history to qualify for the NCAA Zone C Qualifiers that will be held over March 10-12 at the McCorkle Aquatics Center in Columbus, Ohio, on the campus of Ohio State University.
She joins former Sycamores Zoe Smith (2023 & 2024) and Bailey Betzer (2024) to achieve the feat and her qualification marks the third consecutive season a Sycamore will be represented at the NCAAs.
