Manchester Claims County Championship with Dominant Second Half

The Manchester Squires used a dominant second half to cruise past Southwood 83-47 on Saturday, capturing the Wabash County Championship. The victory improves Manchester to 8-1 on the season as they continue their strong start.

Southwood held an early advantage, leading by as many as eight points in the second quarter. However, Manchester closed the half with a 17-2 run, sparked by Aaron Reid’s pair of three-pointers, to take control of the game. The Squires carried their momentum into the third quarter, outscoring Southwood 29-7 behind 11 points from Gavin Betten, who led all scorers with 25.

Manchester’s balanced offensive attack featured contributions from Ethan Hendrix with 17 points and Tallon Torpy with 14. Reid and Kaleb Kline added 6 points each, while Dallas Martin and Carter Wagoner chipped in 4 apiece. Sam Winger scored 3 points, with Nick Cave and Carson Heath rounding out the scoring with 2 each.

The Squires’ second-half defensive intensity proved to be the difference, as they limited Southwood’s opportunities and controlled the tempo. Manchester now turns its attention to Friday’s matchup at Northwestern as they look to continue their impressive season.
