The Peru High School wrestling team showcased grit and determination at the 46th Al Smith Classic, with several wrestlers earning key victories and points in one of Indiana’s most prestigious individual tournaments. Highlighting the Tigers’ effort was Trevi Hillman-Conley, who placed third in the 285-pound division, scoring 21 team points.
Hillman-Conley, now 31-1 on the season, opened his tournament with a pin in 3:26 over Hayden Dillinger (Western) and followed it up with a dominant 10-2 major decision over Jacob Reynolds (Garrett). After a setback in the quarterfinals, Hillman-Conley battled back in the consolation bracket, defeating Jacari Markey (Warren Central) by fall and Grady Baker (Bellmont) by decision. In the third-place match, he edged Kameron Kauffman (Warsaw) 5-4 to cap an impressive tournament run.
At 132 pounds, Glen Baldwin also had a standout showing, placing eighth and scoring 9.5 team points. Baldwin earned wins by fall, decision, and technical fall, advancing deep into the bracket before falling in the seventh-place match to Warren Brown (Merrillville). Baldwin’s tournament record included a notable 18-3 tech fall victory over Brock McCartney (Garrett).
Other notable performances included Isaiah Korba (157 pounds), who earned seven points with a win by fall and another via injury default, and T.J. Raber (106 pounds) and Holden Burkholder (113 pounds), who each scored three points with wins in the consolation rounds.
Despite early exits for several wrestlers, Peru’s efforts highlighted the depth and resilience of the program. The team looks to build on this experience as they prepare for the remainder of the season.
