The Peru Tigers secured a 69-65 win on the road against Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger on Saturday, powered by sharp three-point shooting and clutch free throws.
The Tigers jumped out to a five-point halftime lead, fueled by three-pointers from senior Gavin Eldridge and junior Reis Bellar. Eldridge drained two in the first quarter, while Bellar added one in the first and two more in the second. Senior Xavier Turner contributed seven points in the second quarter to bolster the Tigers’ offense.
Peru held off a fourth-quarter comeback attempt by the Saints, who relied on a barrage of three-pointers. The Tigers sealed the win at the free-throw line, going 13-of-14 in the final period, with Eldridge sinking all eight of his attempts.
The victory improves Peru’s record to 6-7 overall and 3-2 in the Three Rivers Conference (TRC). The Tigers will return to action Friday at home against Lafayette Central Catholic, with tip-off set for 7:45 p.m.
