The Peru Tigers secured a hard-fought 44-33 victory over the Caston Comets in the first round of the Beef O’Brady’s Miami County Holiday Tournament on Friday, advancing to the championship game.
The Tigers struggled early, falling behind 14-6 after the first quarter. However, a determined defensive effort allowed Peru to limit the Comets to just five points in the second quarter and four in the third. The Tigers found their offensive rhythm in the third quarter, scoring 17 points to take control with a 35-23 lead heading into the final period.
Caston applied pressure in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers maintained their composure and held on for the win.
Addison Robbins led the Tigers with a stellar 21-point performance. Jacey Boswell and Sydney Azbell each added six points, while Kyannah Correll contributed five. Addison Butt scored three points, Alivia Ross added two, and Lucy Sensel rounded out the scoring with one point.
The win improves the Tigers’ record to 5-9 on the season. They advance to the championship game, where they will face Maconaquah on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. at North Miami. The boys’ championship game will follow.
