The Peru Tigers hit the road Tuesday to face former MIC and new TRC rival Northwestern, ultimately falling 63-55 after a hard-fought battle.
The Tigers got off to a sluggish start, falling behind 7-2 and 16-4 before ending the first quarter trailing 20-8. Northwestern established an early advantage in physicality, dominating the boards with a 22-8 rebounding edge in the first half.
Peru managed to trim the deficit to eight points by halftime, but Northwestern extended its lead to 11 by the end of the third quarter. The Tigers made a strong push in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to within two possessions. However, Northwestern sealed the game by converting 11 of 14 free throws down the stretch.
The loss drops Peru to 5-5 overall and 3-1 in the Three Rivers Conference (TRC). The Tigers return to action Friday at Oak Hill, with tip-off scheduled for approximately 7:30 p.m., following the varsity wrestling match.
