The Warsaw Lady Tiger Wrestling team delivered a strong performance at the Mishawaka Sectional on Saturday, finishing fourth overall and advancing six wrestlers to next week’s regional competition at Goshen.
The Tigers had five wrestlers reach the finals, including two champions. Emma DeWald claimed the title at 125 pounds, while Mariana Castro earned top honors at 155 pounds.
DeWald, the top seed in her weight class, showcased dominance throughout the tournament. She secured two technical falls to reach the finals, where she capped off her run with a major decision victory in the championship match.
Castro entered as the second seed and advanced to the semifinals via a forfeit. She went on to win her next two matches by pinfall, securing the title with a commanding performance in the finals.
Warsaw also had three runner-up finishers: Kynna Yoder (120), Natalie Davis (130), and Kaiah Long (170). Each wrestler finished 2-1, advancing to the semifinals by forfeit and winning by pinfall to reach the championship round.
In the placement round, Kristina Kolembe secured a third-place finish with a pin, adding to the Tigers’ impressive showing. Paloma Cervantes and Cadence Escoto rounded out the team’s effort with fifth-place finishes, making them alternates for the regional competition.
The Tigers will look to build on their success at the regional tournament next week at Goshen.
